The American magazine Time published the rating of the best technical novelties of 2017. The top five included: the game console Nintendo Switch, smartphones Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S8, Microsoft Surface Laptop and quadrocopter DJI Spark.

According to Time, the first place goes to Nintendo Switch, the game console. The Switch consists of a tablet with a 6.2-inch screen with slots for attaching Nintendo's Joy-Con controllers on either side, turning it into a handheld video game machine. It is the first console that's truly designed for both at-home and on-the-go entertainment.

The second place is held by Apple's iPhone X. Experts noted the high cost of the gadget - from $999 in the US, while some innovations had previously appeared on similar devices on the Android platform. However, the Face ID face detection function and the frameless display certainly set a new standard for smartphone manufacturers around the world.

The third place was given to the Microsoft's Surface Laptop. Experts commended its light and elegant design, sharp screen, and long-lasting battery.

The fourth place was awarded to the quadrocopter Spark by the Chinese company SZ DJI Technology. Experts noted the small size of the device. The Spark's standout feature is that it doesn't require a remote control for navigation.

The fifth place was taken by the new model of the flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 by the South Korean manufacturer Samsung. Not to mention its eye-popping OLED display, which for a long time was the best you could ask for on a phone. Samsung also made an effort to simplify the phone's software, cutting a lot of the extraneous features that made its older phones feel clunky.
