24th Music Festival
Music lovers must go to Geneva for the 24th Music Festival which will be held from 22 to 24 of June. More than 500 live performances will take place at 30 concert venues over three days. The places for performances will be equipped in the Old Town, on the embankments of Lake Geneva, in city parks. Concerts also will also be held in the city halls, for example on the Victoria Hall stage and in the Cathedral of the Capital.
You will hear everything: from rock to classical music.
During these three days, the city will be decorated by a huge number of installations. An open-air cinema will be organized. Workshops and a piano marathon will be held all day long in the Bastions Park.
Visit La Fête de la Musique and you will not regret it.
200-year anniversary of the City Botanical Garden
It is one of the main anniversaries of 2018 in Switzerland. The garden is famous all over the world for its collection of plants numbering 12 thousand species. On its territory of 28 hectares, there is a children's play area with carousels, slides, miniature houses, a private quay plot, fully equipped for recreation, and even a zoo.
For visually impaired visitors, the garden administration has arranged a special outdoor terrace, "Garden of smells and touches". Plants harvested here can and should be touched. In addition, they smell all year round, and not only during the flowering period.
The Botanical Garden in Geneva is not boring at all, many visitors walk around it all day until the very closing.
It is open in the summer months from 8:00 to 19:30.
Street Food Festival
A street feast in Geneva will be held from 8 to 10 of June at Promenade de Saint-Antoine and Promenade du Pin.
Visitors will find countless food trucks, cars converted into kitchens, markets with farm products; they will meet winemakers and independent brewers. At the festival, well-known musicians and DJs will perform. The novelty of this year is a special children's zone.
If you are in Geneva, then immerse yourself in this whirlpool of aromas, colors and flavors.
"Music in The Summer" International Festiva
Another series of concerts will be held from July 6 to August 22, only this time the organizer of the festival is the city council. Musicians will play classical works, jazz and ethnic melodies of different corners of the Earth. In total 350 groups and solo performers from around the world will take place in the festival. Musicians will perform in the city center, city parks and even in a court located in the city hall.
Regatta
June promises to be rich in events. On the same dates as the street food festival, from 8 to 10 of June, the most prestigious regatta will be held on Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Western Europe. More than 500 sailing ships will compete for the main prize on the 123-kilometer route. The general start of yachts in the Geneva harbor is perhaps the most ambitious thing that can only be observed in the water area of the largest lake in Western Europe.
This year the regatta celebrates its 80th anniversary, so the event promises to be especially bright. The winner will get a golden cup, a challenge prize. Participants can keep it forever, only if they win the regatta three times. For all the time, only three crews managed to do so.
It is most convenient to watch the regatta from the Geneva Yacht Club or directly on the waterfront. Whatever place you choose, the view of hundreds of multi-colored sails will be memorable.
